Theology of discrimination

The strength and popularity of religion, partly due to the fact that it gives people an ethical compass. Why then are so many belief systems, helps to perpetuate the phenomenon that most of us consider deeply immoral - hurting women?
On the one hand, the warlords in the Congo do not justify the mass rapes Scripture (though the latter, which met there, shimmered with a pastor and wore a badge that says "Rebels of Christ"). Burning alive of young girls in India is not a Hindu ritual. There is a verse in the Koran ordering Afghan zbirom oblaæ acid faces of girls who dare to go to school.

Yet these forms of violence - and the more banal forms of injustice, such as naked girls or women's lower earnings - are embedded in a social context, which makes us recognize women as second class citizens. Religions and helped shape the context and not pushed too hard to change it.
"In many religions, women are prevented from playing an equal and fully-fledged role in the spiritual life, and so help justifying abuse against them - said in December Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter in a speech before the World Parliament of Religions in Australia. - The belief that women are inferior beings in God's eyes - said Carter - provides an excuse brutal husband who beats his wife, the soldier who raped a woman, the employer who pays wages lower than their pracowniczkom, or to parents who decide to have an abortion female fetus.

Carter, who considers religion as one of the "root causes of violations of the rights of women", is a member of the elders (the Elders), a narrow group of retired world leaders, founded by Nelson Mandela. Elders, who notes the influence of religion on the persecution of women, issued a statement calling on spiritual leaders to "walk away from all discriminatory practices in their own beliefs and religious traditions."

It is difficult to accuse the elders to promote atheism or fussiness. She is a member Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and the council meetings always begin with a silent prayer. - The elders are not attacking religion itself - emphasizes Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. But she added: - Together we decided that if there is some overriding problem is the use of religion to justify the subordination kobiet.Zarówno the Koran and the Bible certainly can provide a multitude of arguments, supporters of the theology of discrimination.

In the New Testament is quoted St. Paul (1 Timothy 2), which tells the woman "abide in silence." Deuteronomy states that if a woman does not bleed on their wedding night, "it will hurl the men of this city to death." Orthodox Jews thank God in prayer, "that did not make me a woman." The Koran states that a woman has to inherit less than men, and her testimony is worth half a man certificate.

It must, however, stipulate that, according to many scholars Paul is the author of passages calling on women to silence. Islam, from the beginning, there was a progressive on women's rights - which prohibited the killing of newborn girls and limited polygamy - but this actually ended.

Instead, strive for justice, religious leaders sanctioned the existing social structures. Africa could benefit greatly if the hierarchs of widows stood in defense of the oppressed by unjust tradition of succession, victims of rape or sexually harassed female students by teachers. But this is different: in Uganda, conservative Christians became famous grotesque initiative for the death penalty for gays.

Paradoxically, however, churches in Africa that are doing the most good for women, they are conservative, led by evangelicals, especially Pentecostals. They are the ones most often encourage women to include leadership in the communities. Many of these women for the first time in my life found themselves in a situation in which enjoy the trust and authority, and their opinion is respected. Pentecostal churches are becoming a powerful force favoring the emancipation of women in rural Africa.

The ray of hope reminds us that while religion is part of the problem may be a key to its solution. The assumption goes like the Dalai Lama, who calls herself a feminist.

A great historical example is slavery. Accept them all three Abrahamic religions. Saint Paul did not condemn this phenomenon, and Muhammad was even own slaves. But the pioneers were moving abolicjonistycznego Quakers and Evangelicals such as William Wilberforce. Those people of faith have fought fiercely to overthrow the unjust regime, tolerated by the earlier churches.

When contemporary religious institutions exclude women from their hierarchy and participation in rituals, clearly imply that a woman is being lower. Elders is right that the community of believers must defend a simple ethical principle: the right of every human being is sacred and can not d
epend on something as temporal as the genitals.

..........for the one rule that lies at the heart of every major religion is that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us.

Adhering to this law of love has always been the core struggle of human nature. We are fallible. We make mistakes, and fall victim to the temptations of pride, and power, and sometimes evil. Even those of us with the best intentions will at times fail to right the wrongs before us.

But we do not have to think that human nature is perfect for us to still believe that the human condition can be perfected. We do not have to live in an idealized world to still reach for those ideals that will make it a better place. The non-violence practiced by men like Gandhi and King may not have been practical or possible in every circumstance, but the love that they preached – their faith in human progress – must always be the North Star that guides us on our journey.

For if we lose that faith – if we dismiss it as silly or naïve; if we divorce it from the decisions that we make on issues of war and peace – then we lose what is best about humanity. We lose our sense of possibility. We lose our moral compass.

Like generations have before us, we must reject that future. As Dr. King said at this occasion so many years ago, “I refuse to accept despair as the final response to the ambiguities of history. I refuse to accept the idea that the ‘isness’ of man’s present nature makes him morally incapable of reaching up for the eternal ‘oughtness’ that forever confronts him.”

So let us reach for the world that ought to be – that spark of the divine that still stirs within each of our souls. Somewhere today, in the here and now, a soldier sees he’s outgunned but stands firm to keep the peace. Somewhere today, in this world, a young protestor awaits the brutality of her government, but has the courage to march on. Somewhere today, a mother facing punishing poverty still takes the time to teach her child, who believes that a cruel world still has a place for his dreams.

Let us live by their example. We can acknowledge that oppression will always be with us, and still strive for justice. We can admit the intractability of depravation, and still strive for dignity. We can understand that there will be war, and still strive for peace. We can do that – for that is the story of human progress; that is the hope of all the world; and at this moment of challenge, that must be our work here on Earth.....

International Human Rights Day is celebrated on 10 December in each year anniversary of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948).

Human rights were formally recognized as one of the priorities of the international community in December 1948, when the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. They gained the name of universal principles covering all aspects of human life. The United Nations oversees the creation of legal regulations in the field of human rights.

Human rights can be classified in several categories. It is widely accepted as the distinction between civil and political rights on the one hand and economic, social and cultural on the other. Initially expected that the two categories of rights will be contained in one document. Finally, they were placed in two different documents: the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. Rationale for this division was the fact that those rights are different in nature - one category of rights is subject to immediate execution and bezwarunkowemu. By contrast, the full rights of economic, social and cultural state to enforce gradually as their financial capacity.

Despite the complexity of the areas of human rights adopted by the Covenants, in the 70s concluded that the progress of civilization somehow enforces the necessity to respond to new challenges.

Under discussion has become known. Third-generation human rights, linked to the growing interdependence of countries in the process of increasing globalization of the world. It includes: the right to peace, right to development, right to a safe environment, the right to use the common heritage of mankind.

Third generation rights can be realized gradually, and only through joint efforts of the international community. These are individual rights, but also collective. The United Nations confirmed the existence of human rights in various resolutions and declarations.

Amnesty on the results of a referendum on minarets in Switzerland

"The referendum result is a great surprise and great disappointment. The fact that Switzerland, a country with a long tradition of religious tolerance and giving refuge to prześladowanm, took so grotesquely discriminatory proposal, it is shocking to us" - said David Diaz-Jogeix, deputy director of the Europe and Central Asia at Amnesty International.

A total ban on building minarets violates the rights of Muslims in
Switzerland to manifest her religion. May be a permanent obstacle to their integration.

Islam is the second biggest religion in Switzerland after Christianity. She confesses her more than 4 percent of the population. Prohibition will probably be overturned by the Federal Supreme Court or Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

WELCOME TO SHELL !No tolerance for those who destroy the planet and break the law

Decades of pollution in the Niger Delta has led to serious human rights violations, driving the people of the region into poverty. The oil industry has failed to adequately prevent the human rights impacts of its operations in the Niger Delta.
All companies have a responsibility to respect human rights in their operations. Human rights abuse are particularly high in the extractive industry. This is not surprising, given the impact that such operations have on land and water resources.

Campaign Manager Naomi McAuliffe talks about progress to date

Subject: Please come clean and clean up in the Niger Delta
From: Joakim Czaja/ joakimprotectthehuman@yahoo.co.uk
To: "Peter Voser - Chief Executive - Royal Dutch Shell"

Dear Mr Voser

Re: Please come clean and clean up in the Niger Delta

I am very concerned about the devastating impact that pollution and environmental damage, associated with the operations of Shell, is having on the human rights of people in the Niger Delta, Nigeria. Shell has failed to take adequate measures to address the social impacts of its activities in the Niger Delta. Oil pollution has damaged crucial sources of livelihood for communities, including farming and fisheries.

Communities are rarely provided with information on the impacts of oil company operations on their environment and human rights.

As the new Chief Executive of Royal Dutch Shell this is your chance to come clean and start your mandate fresh. I urge you to:

* undertake a comprehensive clean-up of all oil pollution in consultation with affected communities and report on this publicly and regularly

* disclose all information on the impact of oil operations on the environment and human rights, including any studies Shell may have done on the impact of its operations on the communities and the environment in the Niger Delta
Sincerely,

PTH/Joakim Czaja
Send the appeal letter below to the new CEO of Shell, urging him to make a commitment to clean up Shell's operations in the Niger Delta

The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg ruled that hanging crucifixes in classrooms is a violation of "the right of parents to educate their children in accordance with their own convictions" and "freedom of religious students."

Ruling is issued following a complaint to the presence of the cross, made by the Italian Citizen coming from Finland.

Here are comments on Internet forums.

Belief that you are to me indifferent.

I do not know what he confesses. Apparently something wrong or does not confess anything other than physiological transformation. It can be repaired in an isolated part of society. Should go, where are the reindeer and make offerings to the spirits and seal liver.
It must be remembered that the first voting rights have been emancipated in Finland or even in Lapland.
There is also their place. And these are the women like soulful. That sighing with them to this woman's soul. Today rodzone in the "dying" in the carcass, but rather because of the carcass!

I leave it without comment, and I think that was right decision of the Court.
